Decorated Panel Bag Needs List

 

q  0.60m of black homespun or a ‘plain fabric’ that shows off your paint and threads well.

 

q  0.60m of a feature fabric that looks good with your plain fabric

 

q  Small pot of textile paint – can be metallic – in a colour that compliments your feature fabric (you can use a couple of colours if you want to)

 

q  A nice bold rubber stamp (mine is a daisy about 1 ½” – 2”)

 

q  Variegated thread that compliments your feature fabric

 

q  Yarn for couching that compliments your feature fabric

 

q  Universal thread for piecing together your bag

 

q  0.10m of Timtex or now called ‘Fast-2-Fuse’

 

q  0.50m of fusible cotton batting or you could use normal thin cotton batting and spray basting spray

 

q  0.50m of lining fabric

 

q  1.50m of thick cord for the strap (just the white one because we will cover this with fabric)

 

q  1 pkt of 1” curtain grommets (1” is the inside measurement)

 

q  Sewing machine with free motion foot and walking foot (a cording or braiding foot is also handy if you have one – this is a foot with a hold in the top and a deep groove underneath

 

q  Marking pencil, pins, scissors, cutter, ruler etc.


Requirements for Flossie Stands about 40cm (16”) tall

• Sewing machine, matching threads, sharp scissors. Open foot

recommended for sewing machine. Hand sewing requirements, skin tone

Quilting Thread and a long thin needle (Darner # 7) for sculpting and

strong thread.

• Freezer paper - about 3/4 meter (30”) Biro and paper scissors

• Stuffing Tools and Small Turning Tools

• Tacky craft glue for shoes

• 10 Pipe Cleaners or 5 chenille sticks for fingers

• 1.6mm (16g) galvanised wire, 1 piece 76cm (30”) long bent in half and twisted

together for each leg. Masking tape to cover twisted wires (do this before class)

Each piece should finish at about 35cm (14”)

• Good quality polyester stuffing is best - I use polyester ‘blown fibre’

• Doll Velour or Doe Suede about 36cm x 82cm (14” x 33”)

• Old thick panty hose or ‘knee highs’ for socks

• Stretch fabric for pants (old singlet/spencer) about 20cm x 30cm (9” x 12”)

• Skirt fabric - thin woollen or cotton - about a fat quarter

• Cotton fabric for blouse - small piece plus 3 small buttons

• Cotton fabric for apron - small piece in check or stripe, plus ribbon for apron ties

• Black felt for shoes about 25cm x 12cm (10” x 5”) and strong card for inner soles

• Small piece of fur, wool, mohair or Tibetan Lambs wool for hair (I used fancy

wool called ‘Milan’)

• 4mm (3/16”) black round beads, 1 for each eye

• Fun fish or something suitable for earrings/decoration

• Kebab stick for fishing rod with a piece of string and soft wire for hook

• Small pieces of grey silk for sardines and tuna fish. Pink silk for snapper fish

• .20 mtr of silk for ‘fish hat’ and same of soft pellem for padding

• 10 silver sequins, 12 black beads and 2 large pearl beads for fish eyes

• Fabric pens - red, brown, white, grey and fine black. Sharp blue pencil and Blusher

A4 paper for design purposes, pencil, black felt tipped pen and fabric marker
Sewing machine, ordinary sewing foot, extra needles
Thread to match fabric, neutral and bright
Rotary cutter, cutting board and ruler

Fabric
Stars: One or more 24cm square of solid background. At least 10 different scraps of bright fabric. Include at least one novelty for the centre.
Houses: Fat quarters of background fabric. Scraps of different brights for the houses.
Boats: Lights and dark blue fat quarters for the background. Scraps of brights for the boats.
Cats: 2 or more fat quarters for the background. Scraps of different brights for the cats.
**For brights include solids, prints, novelty, stripes and dots.





Shaded Faces Class with Anna Williams

 This workshop is designed to help students create their own portrait quilt from a photo of their choice. The finished wall hanging will be approximately A3 size and will resemble an art quilt rather than a true to life portrait.

The Photograph. The photo to use for this project can be any portrait of an adult, child or pet etc... The image needs to be good quality, in colour, clear and closely cropped without too much background ie the subjects face needs to be the main focus.                                         

Please Note: To use your picture as a pattern it needs to be printed in grayscale (not black and white). The picture needs to be photocopied to A3 size and use colour mode to print (not black and white) on the photocopier. If you have photoshop you can posterise the image as follows but it is not essential.

1.Change your image to black and white.

2. Open it in photoshop

3.Click on 'image' along the top bar and scroll down the menu to adjustments and then to posterise.

4. Choose the 4 colour option and then print. Enlarge at the photocopy shop to A3 in colour mode (not black and white).
